Data Viz — Voter Mobilisation on Twitter

From Tweets to Votes: Analysing Trump and Biden's Campaign Strategies on Twitter

Introduction

The influence and resonance of political discourse on social media platforms have become integral components of public engagement. This project delves into the landscape of digital political communication by examining the US presidential election in 2020.

The two candidates Donald Trump and Joe Biden and their vice-presidential candidates Mike Pence and Kamala Harris used the social media platform Twitter for campaigning. They reached out to their followers and US-citizens in general by asking them to vote. The project visualises the impact of these tweets through typography.

The data visualisation maps all tweets and retweets from Donald Trump, Joe Biden, and their respective vice-presidential candidates with the words vote/voter/voting. The popularity of a post is evaluated through retweets, which is depicted visually through typography. The higher the number of retweets, the broader the typography.

The project offers insights into the frequency of tweets and discerns which political party garnered a higher count of retweets.

How much support did the Republicans and Democrats get and which party had the bigger twitter fanbase on the election day?

The retweet counter showcases the cumulative retweets amassed by a political party by the day's end. This numerical representation serves as a significant indicator, offering insights into the engagement and influence of the party on social media.

It acts as a valuable gauge for the enthusiasm of the party's fanbase, reflecting the reach and resonance of their messages within the online community.
